The Ruru is a handcrafted low penny whistle in the key of D major, an octave lower than whistles like the Clarke Sweetone. This is a big whistle and is not recommended for beginners.

These whistles are tough, made from PVC and wood. They feature: * A small bell which helps improve the volume of the lower notes of each octave compared to the higher ones. * They also have a curved lip against which the air is directed like a classical flute, rather than a straight one, giving a distinctive mellow and slightly 'breathy' tone. * The Ruru features an aluminium 'transport' joint that allows the bell section to be rotated. This feature allows the optimum offset on the lowest hole (E) to be obtained for any player, left or right handed. * Each whistle is carefully hand tuned to concert pitch A=440Hz, within the limits of variable air temperature and how hard you blow. * The range is at least two octaves, D4 to C#6. * My whistle has a very comfortable mouthpiece shape compared to many PVC or aluminium whistles. * A demo of this whistle is on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koCHQgrTPdc
