The Matuku II is a handcrafted Tunable low penny whistle in the key of D major. The Matuku has a bigger bore than most other low-D instruments (27mm, 1 1/16") giving it a mellow but expressive tone. It is a big whistle with quite large tone-holes and is not recommended for beginners.

These whistles are tough, made from PVC. They feature: * A small bell/horn which helps improve the volume of the lower notes of each octave compared to the higher ones. * A handcrafted glass-fibre tuning slide, allowing about 1/4 tone pitch adjustment each way.. * They also have a curved lip against which the air is directed like a classical flute, rather than a straight one, giving a distinctive tone. * Each whistle is carefully hand tuned to concert pitch A=440Hz, within the limits of variable air temperature and how hard you blow. * The range is at least two octaves, D4 to C#6, plus a few notes of the third octave. * My whistle has a very comfortable mouthpiece shape compared to many PVC or aluminium whistles.

BTW, Matuku is the Maori name for the Australasian bittern (sorry, bittern not included).
