At Last! Now you CAN play those unreachable low whistles! Some of my customers have had difficulty reaching the lowest tone-hole of my low C and low D whistles. The issue is not unique to my instruments, since the hole position is determined by physics, not aesthetics or practicality. For some time I have been experimenting with a key, similar to those on a saxophone or clarinet and have managed to arrive at a design that works well. The key clips on to most whistles or flutes with OD from 25mm to 28mm, such as the Shearwater Low-D. It stays firmly in place, yet is easily adjustable and seals as well as your finger.
